Celebrate small: May 4-8 is Small Business Week

mainstreet

The U.S. Small Business Administration is hosting a series of webinars during this year’s National Small Business Week, May 4-8. The five sessions cover practical topics and rely on experts from such big names as ADP, Visa and Colonial Life.

“Secrets to Crafting a Digital Footprint” is Monday, May 4, and begins at 6 p.m. EDT and features Steve Strauss, USA Today‘s small business columnist, and Jeff Biesman, a marketing VP for YP Marketing Solutions.

Digital marketing goes beyond a name, address and phone number listed in the online Yellow Pages. Consumer reviews are the norm today. Unless you have a corner on whatever market you’re in, it’s unlikely a prospective customer will take a chance on an unknown business when he can find tons of info online from a quality competitor.

Set aside an hour on Monday to get the facts. I bet there are low-cost ways to get you started that won’t take valuable time away from your current customers.

And don’t forget, Small Business Saturday is Nov. 29 this year. Start networking now with small businesses in your community to develop a promotion plan that could entice customers to forego the madness of Black Friday at the big box stores for a great shopping experience at your business. I’ll share resources on that in coming posts, but it’s not too late to start planning.

Small Business Saturday is on Facebook and the SBA has a webpage filled with resources.
